Kent grew up in Surrey and has lived in the Lower Mainland for most of his life. His interest in buildings was mixed with trepidation over the infamous "paint-by-numbers engineering" associated with HVAC that mechanical engineering students tend to gossip about, but FirstLight's niche in retrofits offers an outlet for creative problem solving while also providing the chance to save the world one building at a time.

Kent graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical at BCIT in 2025. His experience as a marine engineer in the Royal Canadian Navy coupled with a robust education from highly capable instructors at BCIT has provided him with a strong foundation for engaging with the industry in a manner that meshes the practical reality of the maintainer with engineering theory.

In his free time, Kent practices historical fencing at Academie Duello (longsword and rapier) and enjoys complex board games and strategy-oriented video games.
