Derek Schick

Cyclist, Nordic skier, Sailor, Boulderer

Derek grew up in the Ottawa Valley and earned his BA.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1996. A summer job at a local Mechanical and Electrical consulting firm sparked his passion for problem-solving—climbing through mechanical rooms and peering into ceiling spaces, searching for solutions to the design challenges of the day.

After moving to Vancouver in 1996, Derek worked at several leading consulting firms, including Omicron (where he met Mike), Keen Engineering (later Stantec), and AME Consulting Group. Throughout his career, he has contributed to remarkable projects and collaborated with talented professionals, both in the office and on construction sites.

Now, Derek is excited to bring his experience and technical expertise to the team at First Light Energy Solutions, helping drive innovation and sustainable solutions in the industry.

Outside of work, you’ll find Derek cycling, Nordic skiing, sailing or bouldering—or simply enjoying time with his wife, two teenage daughters, and their dog.
