Joel was born in Canada and raised in Washington state USA, eventually returning back to Canada to complete a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Systems at BCIT in 2024 with distinction. His studies focused on HVAC and Plumbing design, including his HVAC design capstone project at BCIT.

Joel has learned and demonstrated his understanding of HVAC design, Air Handling Unit retrofits, and Boiler retrofits on various projects at FirstLight. He looks forward to learning and experiencing more about decarbonization, hydronic design and HVAC design with his work at First Light Energy Solutions as a Mechanical Designer.

Outside of work, Joel enjoys writing and listening to music, video editing, and playing retro video games with friends.
